HEF’s quarterly newsletter – March 2024
Enjoy this edition of HEF's quarterly newsletter! We'll show you how education foundations can play meaningful roles in the development and implementation of high-quality programming for our community's children.
Laburnum Elementary School Community Learning Center (CLC) students assembled their new planting tower named “Eve” in December and were harvesting salad greens in early March!
Equipped with a Go Green grant awarded by Virginia Department of Education, and a partnership with Fork Farms, students are growing self-contained, vertical gardens by Flex Farm. These simple and versatile hydroponic gardens address food safety concerns and require no herbicides or pesticides.
HEF Mission Moment
“Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of attending a family engagement event at Fairfield Middle School. Rosa Patterson, our amazing CLC Site Director hosted a session focused on understanding “love languages.” Parents and their children learned how to express and receive love from one another, and how effective communication supports that. Our guest facilitator, Dr. Virgil Philips, explained each of the 5 love languages and families gained wonderful insight to better communicate needs and show support.
Throughout the year, HEF Community Learning Centers (CLC) offer an array of opportunities like this. Our CLC teams do an amazing job of supporting the health and wellbeing of our students while engaging their caregivers as partners in our work. The skills our students practice during our after-school programs will serve them well as they matriculate through school and life. Henrico Education Foundation is honored to partner with Henrico County Public Schools in ensuring that we’re helping to develop healthy children through our CLC programs and services. What is your love language? and the language of your loved ones? Take the time to show that you care by loving someone as they need to be loved. All we need is love.”
