No, HEF is an independent, nonprofit, community-based charitable organization supporting all Henrico County public schools.

HEF is a friend and champion of public schools. We provide funding and programs to strengthen public schools and ignite student learning. HEF’s top three priorities are: 1) serving as a catalyst for innovation in HCPS; 2) preparing students K-12 for success in college, career and community; and 3) strengthening educational leadership.

HEF is a champion for all public schools in Henrico County providing support to teachers and students though a variety of programs and grant opportunities.

Any Henrico County Public Schools employee, department or school may submit an application to HEF’s Innovative Grants Program. Applications require a grant consult with HEF’s Program Officer. Visit the Innovative Grants page for more information.

HEF receives grant applications several times per year. The applications are reviewed by a grant committee consisting of volunteers, board members and other stakeholders. These individuals make funding recommendations to HEF program staff during each funding cycle.

HEF provides more than just funding. HEF is focused on innovation and developing programs supporting more than 48,000 students across Henrico County, while PTAs play a vital role in advocacy and providing resources in individual schools.

While Henrico County’s tax dollars provide strong support for programs, facilities and staffing, HEF’s Innovative Grants Program is the only funding source outside of the county budget for designing, testing and piloting creative approaches to instruction.

The funds raised by HEF do not come from large endowments. They come from people just like you who value strong public schools in Henrico County.

HEF receives gifts from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Donations may be made by check, credit card or gifts of stock or securities. Many individuals choose to make a monthly gift or pledge that can be fulfilled at a later date. Donations are fully tax deductible.
