Making the Makerspace an Equitable Experience for All
Tuckahoe Middle
The student-led Power Up Patriots design, plan and implement makerspace challenge sessions that appeal to all of the school's diverse learning groups in hopes of building a culture based on the Henrico Learner Profile. Makerspace is a mindset that encourages creativity in all students by providing an environment, tools and materials where students can explore areas of interest to them.
On Digital Learning Day the Power Up Patriots held an all day event and had over 200 students come through their stations. Recently, they worked with 30 English Language Learners from grades 1-4 and taught them basic coding using Code and Go Mice! They're already planning their next event: a coding event for the Integrated Services classes.
