This Innovative Grant is focused directly on increasing Hispanic engagement in the Quioccasin Middle School (QMS) community by reconstructing communicative practices. With this grant, we hope to increase students’ sense of belonging at QMS. When students feel like they belong, they perform better all around. We hope this will also cause a shift in the culture of the school towards a more truly inclusive and nurturing environment for all students, especially those traditionally marginalized by differences in ethnicity, culture, and language barriers.

The school recently hosted an event called Food & Fútbol to bring students, family and friends together for a House Soccer Tournament. The goal of this type of event is to increase involvement of Hispanic students and their families in the overall life of the school.
