Anne Poates
Retired Educator
Anne Poates retired in 2016 after spending almost 40 years with Henrico County Public Schools. She began her career as a Spanish teacher at Tucker High School and then moved into administration as an assistant principal at Godwin High School. In 2001 Anne became principal at what was then Byrd Middle School. After six years there, she moved to Douglas Freeman High School, where she served as principal for nine years.
Anne is also a proud graduate of HCPS, having attended Hermitage High School. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Richmond and master’s degree from the University of Virginia. Anne enjoys her work with HEF, as it allows her to remain involved with the good work that is happening in HCPS, and to support programs and innovations that serve students in all grade levels.
